2nd Annual Love + Light: A Contemporary Art and Light Exhibition

February 2013 Report by Studio Blue Bird, LLC

This annual destination event celebrates Loveland's distinctive arts identity as well as our history as the Sweetheart City. The 2nd Annual Grand Opening took place on Valentine’s Day 2013

The event took place in the Historic Loveland Feed & Grain. The Feed & Grain was transformed from a deteriorated granary to a high end contemporary and conceptual art event. The raw spaces and cold temperatures lend well to this art medium.

The event had 1250 visitors during the month of February. The visitors were queried as to where they traveled from to see the show and 62 different zip codes were represented. States represented included: Washington, Nebraska, Colorado, Texas, Missouri, Minnesota and Iowa.

Over 50 Artists and Volunteers came together to make this show a success.

Artwork included a light show on the side of the Feed & Grain building that drew people in from Fourth Street.

Assistance with the show came from numerous interns and artists from CSU and the Rocky Mountain School of Art. The show was held in collaboration with The Loveland Museum/Gallery through artist programming.

Creative Sector Directories

As a service to the both the regional and non-regional community and visitors, The Office of Creative Sector Development offers a comprehensive creative directory. Organizations, museums, galleries, venues, attractions, individuals and businesses are invited to submit their information and utilize this community resource. It is free and open to all local organizations, creative individuals and companies. It is hoped that this will support and encourage partnerships within the sector that will help everyone prosper as a result. For instance

  • A mixed media artist is designing a large installation piece and needs a structural engineer to be part of the project - that collaboration starts here by consulting the directory.
  • A musician needs a free venue and partners with a performing organization to trade free space for free background music at an event - that collaboration starts here.
  • A sculptor moves to town, and at his/her finger tips has an instant directory of sculpture related services, foundries, and listing of other sculptors who can offer advice, mentoring, networking in the industry and more. With dozens of sculpture related services and sculptors, the resources for a working artist are vast
  • A design company needs help with content writing and connects with a professional writer through the directory listings
  • Someone is looking for available workspace, models, certain equipment, services- all this is available here

These amazing collaborative opportunities exist because Loveland has such a broad array of talent that can be shared and leveraged for success. Connection is available through the Directory. Coming soon will be an inventory of local technology and equipment that can also be used to increase partnership opportunities and resources for new creatives coming to the area.

For our out-of-area visitors and collectors, the directory will provide access to contact information about individuals and businesses. Whether interested in purchasing artwork, planning a visit, enlisting a local service or looking to move to this inspiring and innovative community, the contact information is found here. This directory and the Creative Sector at Work section will provide an up close and personal look at who we are and what we will continue to accomplish. Each local creative will be listed.
